What Is EFT Tapping and How Does It Work?

EFT

If you're here, you might already feel that knowing inside that something has to change. You’ve done things on your own and you know you are strong. You have some awareness, have done some work on yourself and maybe even been to therapy. And yet, you are struggling with feelings of overwhelm, frustration, stress, anxiety or resentment and don’t know how to let it go or how to move on. That’s where EFT Tapping comes in.

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a gentle but powerful way to help you release what’s been weighing you down. It combines focused attention with light tapping or pressing on acupressure points to help calm the nervous system and clear emotional blocks. I use it in my work with women who are ready to let go and transform in order to feel more confident, connected, grounded, peaceful and free.

Let me walk you through how it works.

What Is EFT Tapping?

EFT is a mind-body technique that helps you move emotions through the body in a way that feels natural and supportive. It's often called “tapping” because you gently tap on specific points on the hand, face and upper body while focusing on a particular issue, emotion, or belief.

We are working with the body as well as the mind. We're not just talking about the things—we’re helping your body process them.

Here’s an overview:

  • You identify what’s bothering you, whether it’s how you are feeling or a specific memory, belief, or emotion.

  • You rate the intensity of the feeling and identify where you feel it in your body.

  • You say a simple statement like, “Even though I feel overwhelmed, that is where I am right now,” while tapping through the points.

  • You repeat the process until you start to feel a shift—lighter, calmer, more clear.

  • I use my skills to guide you through settling your nervous system and working through things while we address the issues, emotions, memories and/or beliefs that come up.

People usually say they feel much more relaxed, calmer and have more clarity after a session.

How Does It Work?

EFT is based on the same energy meridians used in acupuncture, but instead of needles, you use your fingertips. Tapping on these points while bringing attention to an emotional experience helps send a calming signal to the brain. It tells your body, “You’re safe now.”

This helps your nervous system settle. And when your body feels safe, it becomes easier to release fear, sadness, stress, or anything else that’s been stuck for too long.

What Can EFT Help With?

EFT can be incredibly effective for a wide range of emotional and physical issues. I’ve used it with clients who were feeling anxious, fearful, angry, grieving, overwhelmed, experiencing emotional or physical pain, or who were disconnected from themselves. It works beautifully for perfectionism, people-pleasing, and those sneaky no longer needed coping skills, habits and patterns that keep showing up.

Here are just a few things EFT can support:

  • Anxiety and nervous system overload

  • Overthinking and decision paralysis

  • Grief, sadness, and loss

  • Fears, phobias, or panic

  • Body image struggles or weight concerns

  • Physical pain with emotional roots

  • Emotional burnout or compassion fatigue

  • Feeling stuck or unsure of your next step

Because it works directly with your body's stress response, and not just talking about what that stress response is, EFT can help in ways that traditional talk therapy sometimes can’t. Therapy with EFT is an amazing combination. EFT is a gentle and effective way for that processing to occur at your own pace.

Why I Love EFT

As licensed therapist and someone who has been doing this work for a long time, I can say EFT is one most useful tools I have found to integrate into my work to help people. It allows people to process stuck feelings and release them something traditional talk therapy does not necessarily do. It meets people where they are non-judgmentally, works with their own feelings stored in the body and helps them feel relief. Some relief is immediate and some takes time depending on the size of the issue.

I’ve had clients tell me, “I feel so relaxed that doesn’t bother me anymore.” They tell me “I can’t believe how good I feel.” They say they feel accepted and then they start to feel freer to do things they previously couldn’t do.

There will be lots of breathing, pausing, noticing, yawning and at times laughing. The process will help to release what has been keeping you stuck and holding things back from moving forward.

What to Expect in a Session

When you come in for a 1:1 EFT session, we’ll start with what you want to work on. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out. You just bring yourself, and I’ll bring my presence, knowledge and skills and we will go from there. I’ll show you the tapping points and explain the process and how it works.

We might explore a specific challenge, like overwhelm at work or a difficult relationship. Or we might start with a general sense of unease or tension in your body. Or you might tell me that some specific thing has been on your mind or bothering you. We’ll use EFT to gently tap through the emotions and help your system soften and settle.

People usually leave feeling clearer, lighter, and feeling more balanced.

What Is Matrix Reimprinting?

Matrix Reimprinting is an advanced form of EFT that helps you work with earlier memories in a deeply healing way. It allows us to revisit past moments that shaped how you feel about yourself—and give those younger parts of you what they didn’t get at the time.

It’s like going back with kindness and care and saying, “You’re not alone anymore.” The results can be profound, especially for those carrying old wounds or beliefs from childhood.

EFT for Professionals and Therapists

I also offer EFT sessions for other professionals—therapists, coaches, and business owners—who are feeling stuck in their work. Maybe you’re trying to grow a practice or shift your career path, but fear or overwhelm is getting in the way. Maybe something old stuff is being triggered in the process like beliefs around work, money, success, self-worth or happiness.

These sessions aren’t therapy or clinical supervision. EFT for Professionals and Therapists is designed to help you move through the emotional blocks so you can show up more fully in your work and life. I love holding space for people navigating that next chapter.

Want to Try EFT in a group?

If you’re curious but not quite ready for 1:1 work, I occasionally offer small online group tapping sessions. They’re complimentary, limited to 8 participants, and a great way to experience EFT in a welcoming, supportive space.

Just email me to be added to the list and I’ll send you the details for the next group.
